Pest Control Services
Bee & Stinging Insect Control
Safe and effective removal and management of bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets and other stinging insects. Between 0.5 and 1.0 percent of the population may be allergic to yellow jacket venom, so nests near people should never be ignored.
Yellow jackets
Destruction of all yellow jackets in and around a recreational area is advised to reduce the possibility of a dangerous sting. Nests are located during the day when the workers are coming and going on a regular basis, marked, and then treated late at night with a liquid insecticide. Destroying individual colonies may not eliminate every yellow jacket worker from an area where food is available, because yellow jackets are capable of flying a mile from their colonies in search of food.
Effective management
Long-term management of yellow jackets is achieved by rigorous sanitation and physical exclusion from food sources. The principle is to deny attractive food to the foraging workers. If begun early in the summer and carried out through mid-autumn, proper sanitation will help reduce the buildup of foraging yellow jackets in an area.
- Keep trash containers closed whenever possible, and empty open containers regularly, every few hours when many foragers are present.
- We can treat trash areas to remove yellow jackets present around cans so they can be emptied safely.
- General spraying of an infested area and electrocuting "bug zapper" devices are of no value in reducing foragers.
Bees, wasps and hornets
Our technicians identify the species first. Honey bees are relocated wherever possible, while paper wasps, bald-faced hornets and ground-nesting yellow jackets are treated and their nests removed. We then seal the voids and eaves they favor so new colonies don't move in.
